On my way… to Japan

It has been too long! More than six years to be exact and I cannot wait to step out of the plane and reconnect with what I call “my Japanese self”.

May 1st, 1993. This is the date my never-ending love affair with Japan started. I arrived in Tokyo and had to take a train to Kyoto. If I had followed my lessons in Japanese culture at university with some interest, I would have known that this date is the start of “Golden Week” and EVERYONE in Japan is travelling. Why Japan? have a look here.

I have been to Japan many times and though I do not want to live there anymore, I am looking forward to spending three months hiking, travelling, and reconnecting.

I will fly out on the 31st of August and arrive the next day, staying for two nights with my wonderful friend Eva, who is also responsible for the fact that I will hike the “Michinoku” coastal trail. A long-distance hike that opened in 2019 to remember the victims of the 2011 tsunami disaster.

Checkout this website, it is a wonderful resource for everyone who is thinking of hiking it. This one is going to be very personal one for many different reasons and I will tell you more about it in the next blog entry.

Don’t forget: Every journey is a personal one, and even if you walk the same paths, you will hike your own hike.
